Why we do it?

Spring Hope has two key aims, not only to raise food but also work to create a charitable inception in peoples minds during a period in the spring season. In partnership with Landlord BC, we have connected with some of the largest Property Management groups in BC and canvassed door-to-door for donations.

Christmas works as a great trigger for people to give. This really shows with the greater Vancouver food bank receiving 40% of their donations for the year during in the month of December. However the greatest period of need from the food bank comes in the summer. We therefore want to create an initiative that acts as “Christmas in spring” not only for food donations but charitable acts of all sorts.
In British Columbia, 30% of those who use the Food Bank are under the age of 18 years old. When those kids get out of school they loose access to hot lunch programs and in some cases hot dinner programs. This is what pushes food bank demand in the summer. Many of you are aware of the concept of supply and demand. When the supply is provided in December and the demand comes in July there is an issue that needs our attention; we are a part of the solution to that problem.

We cannot do it alone. The success we have had over the past two years has been built off the hard work and care of volunteers, organizers, property managers, tenants willing to donate, and of course, you, the apartment owner. Without your support, we cannot make this happen.
