About Spring Hope

The concept of Spring Hope is simple. On March 26th and 27th, 2015 participating buildings will be canvassed by volunteers knocking on doors asking tenants for non-perishable goods for their local food bank.

The Spring Hope food drive began in Toronto with a woman named Bonnie Hoy. Bonnie has been organizing a “spring hope” food drive in Toronto for over 10 years and has grown it into the largest door to door food drive in the country.

The Vancouver Spring Hope food drive started with its inaugural year in 2013 after a meeting between Bill Goold and Bonnie Hoy. Bill was inspired by the idea and got his son Landon onboard. The 2013 food drive was a moderate success raising 10,000 lbs of food. The Vancouver Spring Hope Food drive looks to match the standard that was set in Toronto.

  • We are a Landlord BC initiative specifically focused on improving our local community and community relations

  • Over two evenings in spring we canvass apartment buildings asking for donations of non-perishable food items

  • 2015 dates are: March 26th6-9pm and 27th @ 5-8 pm

Direct changes we made:

  • Over the course of two days we will collect and donate a large sum of food to BC food Banks

  • Last year we donated over 12,000 lbs of food. Enough to feed 150 families for a week!

  • Our goal is double our donation this year and reach 24,000 lbs of food

  • Direct impactful change in our community is our aim and main focus

Landon Goold, Co-founder of Spring Hope

When I began working with Spring Hope in 2013 I had no idea how much this charity would touch me personally and inspire me in my own life. Coming into it I didn't have much experience in event planning but I was determined to make Spring Hope a success on a similar level to what it is in Toronto. I expected to work hard and try to make it as big as I possible could; however what I did not expect was for Spring Hope to become a passion of mine. What turned Spring Hope from a project into a passion for me was seeing the smiles on the faces of people who’s doors we knocked on asking for food during canvassing in 2013. Seeing how happy everyone was to give and the smiles on the faces of those who we just interrupted, sometimes during dinner, really touched me.

It has been this happiness of seeing others give that continues to inspire me to put in my best efforts to grow Spring Hope BC into its full potential!
